Our school (English presentation)

Our school – the Gymnasium Korschenbroich – is  a high school in the center of the idyllic small town of Korschenbroich. Around 33.000 inhabitants appreciate the „urban-rural-life“. The North Rhine-Westphalian state capital of Düsseldorf is only a twenty-minute drive away and there are also excellent train connections to other parts of Germany and Europe.

Our school was founded in 1976 and has continually been modernized. All classrooms are equipped with digital whiteboards and the pupils receive iPads from the municipal education authority. Our teaching is therefore at a very modern level.

Today 1000 pupils between the ages of 10 and 19 attend our school. They are taught and supported by a staff of 80 teachers who offer a wide range of subjects and extracurricular activities to promote all of our students’ talents.

Our students learn different languages, namely English, French and Spanish. This goes hand in hand with the opportunity to take part in one of many student exchanges including the Netherlands, France, Spain, Finland, Hungary and last but not least Anchorage, Alaska in the USA. We are very proud of these exchanges as our students can practice their language skills in real life situations, gain precious social skills and make friends in other countries. Due to the numerous exchanges and bilingual history classes we have been awarded the title of “European School”.

In addition to languages, we also promote the scientific talents of our pupils. Our pupils successfully take part in various science competitions such as Dechemax, a traditional national chemistry competition; IPHO, the International Physics Olympiad; and the Freestyle Physics Competition of the University of Duisburg.

Our students are also active in the areas of music, art and theatre. Every two years, a large musical - a joint project of our orchestra and our choirs - takes place on the stage of our auditorium; in addition, we actually create an art calendar with a collection of artworks by our students and, in our literature course, our students annually perform a current, socially relevant play for the school community.

We are also involved in various sporting events such as national swimming competitions, soccer matches and running events.

So you can say that every talent and every interest of our students is truly encouraged, which is why we are a very lively and engaged school community.
